Knitted Snow Boots? Why not!

One of the major perks of my job is that I get to play with all the yarns! When we first got in the Bellini yarn, I thought it was cool but couldn’t figure out what to do with it. I loved the bold texture and the variegation of the colors. It really reminded me of fur, and I thought “Hmmm…this would be a cool alternative to using real fur and much cheaper!”.

I have been in pursuit of the perfect, stylish, warm snow boots but haven’t been able to shell out the $200 or more for the ones I’ve had my eye on. Then it came to me, knitted snow boots!

I’ve always loved the shape of Moon Boots so I decided to use that shape as my base. Basically all the part that is nylon on these boots is where I’m going to put the Bellini. Where there is leather, I am going to use leather on my knitted boots as well. I am thinking black patent leather, maybe quilted if I’m feeling ambitious. Then I am going to adhere the leather bottoms to these rubber soles that I bought on ebay.

The boots are going to be lined with fleece with foam inside to help keep its shape and make them extra warm. NY Fashion Week is coming up in a few days and I’m going to be reporting on some of the shows for Fashion 360 Magazine. I would love to rock my new boots at Lincoln Center! That doesn’t give me much time though, especially since I don’t have all the yarn yet. I ordered it on Thursday so hopefully it will be waiting for me at the office on Monday. In the meantime I’m going to get to work making the lining. No time to waste, gotta go!
